The second phase of the Ganges Phase Action Plan is on-going in Varanasi. People living on the Mahmoorganj-Sigra road were asked to help block traffic so that workers could install sewer pipe in the road. At 4pm, water buffalo make their way to a pond in Sigra. This day however, they came upon an upexpected obstacle.

Dev Diwali took place in Varanasi on November 10, 2011. The celebration consists of hundreds of thousands of small clay lamps which are filled with oil and placed on the ghat steps leading to the Ganges river. Here are some clips taken from a boat.

Singer Manoj Tiwari and Actress Bhagyashree Patwardhan were invited to be the VIP guests at the grand opening of Eve's Beauty Salon located in the Swastik Complex on Lanka Road in Varanasi. In this video is shown a brass band playing music leading up to the opening, a clip of Manoj Tiwari entering the Swastik Complex and the lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp. Eve's Beauty Salon now has four branches in Varanasi at Lahurabir, Sigra, Bhelupur and Lanka.

Varanasi recently acquired a fleet of compact garbage vehicles. These vehicles collect garbage in spots that big trucks cannot go. At the end of the day, the small vehicles combine their garbage into a few big trucks which then take the garbage out of town. The Ganges is at flood stage. Pilgrims must wash on the steps leading down to Dashashwamedh ghat as all the ghats are under water. Bamboo poles have been placed along the bathing area to keep people from going too deep into the water. Lifeguards are stationed at Dashashwamedh to keep watch over the bathers.
